2020-2021 School Year
West Louisville Elementary School - Owensboro, KY
In the 2020-2021, districts across the state of the Kentucky adopted several learning models which were designed to give flexibility in school schedules based on COVID-19 spread amidst the communities they served. During this school year, I developed music content for virtual and in-person models of learning that played on both their benefits and limitations.
The content focus of the 2020-2021 remained the same: individual music literacy for each student. The ultimate question became how to navigate this goal between the changing learning platforms of the 2020-2021 school year.
The school year began and switched throughout to a virtual model of instruction. I used video instruction, Google Meet live classes, and his skills as a Google Certified Education to create a culture of learning, even when he could not see his students in person.
In addition to the virtual model, I also developed content for a hybrid model of instruction which put students physically in my classroom with masks and social distancing. With the classroom space provided, he set up socially distanced boxes in which students could move and create music while staying distant from fellow students at all times. All materials were sanitized between class sessions.
This school year consisted of different virtual programs, including the Virtual Veterans Day Program. This program was designed to honor member of the community who served in our country's armed forces. It featured student solo performances, student writings, photos of faculty/staff veteran family members, and footage from previous years' programs. I put this performance together using the WeVideo editing program, and used Google Sites to make it easily accessible to the community.
